Not my pic,hehe. Got it from APOD.com. Just using it to dream in my head on rainy nights. I haven't heard back from our el Presidente yet, but yes, dinner 2moro night. DSD has the dates for the run of new moons for this year to plan our observing sessions with. Bring your dues for 2016 too! MMc

i was able to snag comet Catalina last night was defiantly not as impressive as i thought it was going to be. but the moon was out and it was real low on horizon. hopefully the next nice day i can catch it higher up and without the moon.

Same with me. Quite tepid.
Catalina at about 11:00 PM wasn't too low, with some moon and off my deck and it was pretty poor. Barely got it off the tail of the dipper. Medium sized smudge with my beater 10 X 50's. Not certain but I think I glimpsed the core of M 101 once, a couple of fields away --- bigger and fainter than the comet. Catalina was easier but not much more than mag 7 ish.
We are overdue for a real show stopper.

nice it was earlier that that i got it around 8 pm when it low on the horizon still and the moon was directly behind me i caught it in a break in the trees or i would have had to wait till after midnight when it would have been higher than the trees in my backyard
