Still looking for volunteers to be out at the park for the three nights of the Meteor Shower. Jack Nolet will be there for all three nights, I don't think I can make it as I'm working evening shifts until Sunday. That being said I am trying to find a way that I might be able to get there...anyway if you can help out Jack it would be hugely appreciated by not only him by me as well. But get there early as there is HUGE interest in the shower this year. Thanks guys and gals...

Guess whose truck decided to blow an intake manifold gasket today?! Mine dag nabit. Better here at home i think rather then going up to MSQ and doing it on Hamilton Hill. At least it isn't the race car, which will see action Friday night at the drag strip. Might be able to do Sunday night. I'll borrow the Wife's car. Jack Nolet...thanks for holding the fort! MMc

I was able to get an evening shift changed to a day shift on Saturday. So I'll work all day and play all night at the park. The Moon will be higher and a bit brighter but oh well...I"m sure folks will get a kick out of seeing all the craters on the surface through the big 20 inch. Then onto Saturn and or Mars...as well as some other objects.
To bad about the truck Mark!! But that's life ...
and YES A HUGE THANK you to Jack for taking on the crowds tonight! I gave him a quick call once I got home from work around 11:45 tonight, he reported not much was happening yet. But he was pretty sure that things will start to look up soon. He also said there were bodies everywhere at the park, so theres no leaving early for him! hahah Whoops! I wish I could be there with him purely for morale support and someone to talk to that he's familiar with. I can't make it tomorrow night either...working. And it would be chaotic to get into the park at that time of night. So Saturday it will be...looking forward to it.
That being said though I'm sure Jack would like some company tomorrow night (Friday)...so please consider it. It would be greatly appreciated it.

Well apparently McDonald park was slammed last night. Phill reported: The road into the park had cars parked both sides from the freeway exit to the dike at 11:30 pm, and the main parking area was jammed. There were lots of parking spaces down by our chain link fence, so I nabbed a prime spot. There were people everywhere. We saw many Persieds (but not 200 per hour as forecast). There was dew, but no mozzies so it was all good !!
The dew Phills talking about was probably caused by all the ooooh's and aaah's out there! LOL
Anyway sounds like last night was a huge success with huge interest. And this was on a Thursday night!!?? Holy smokes...wait until the weekend!!
Jack Nolet reported that he had parked inside our observing area and that there was no way for him to leave even if he tried! As there were folks sprawled out all over the place! LOL Must have been a sight to see... I wish I could have been there but alas my work schedule doesn't permit it right at the moment...but I did get Saturday changed to a dayshift (my friday) so I will be there on Saturday!! I'll take the 20 inch with me and have some fun with that.
Last night wasn't the peak event by what I saw last night, so maybe tonight will be even better!! (friday) We can only hope for the people that really want to see some great meteors....
Clear Skies folks...
