Hi Craig,
That sky does look very nice. But with the moon setting at 11:32ish and an appointment Wed. morning, I'm going to pass. Looks like there's about 2 or 4 inches of snow at Portia. Too bad the snow came just before the clearing. I saw Jupiter up this morning -- it is already up by 03:00
I've got a stiff NE outflow wind at my place. Hope you find a quiet spot. Stay warm and let us know how it goes.
A high end Christmas dinner didn't really pan out so we're having a regular dinner meeting at the Crossroads on Wednesday the 14th. There should be lots of people there.
Hope to see you there.
(This is the first real frost at my place -- I can now finally pick my kiwis, looks like 30 lbs.)
DSD.

Kiwis -- tall vine on T-bar trellis. Need male and female on quite a bit of space. Pick after frost and ripen from January to March. There's a nice 7 acre yard on Olund Rd just up on the west side of the Matsqui flats.
Enjoy Orion. Try to get NGC 835 + 3 others in field ('Four Tenors') in Cetus -- very nice.
Seeing might only be fair tonight.

I'm a hard copy guy so the RASC's Observer's Handbook has a great list of Carbon Stars. They give the coordinates and BV index (how red). Even an old, out of date copy has all the lists.
The Pocket Sky Atlas has a good number charted with a small c in brackets: (c) but use the Handbook to ID them.
Transparency is so important. I also use weather.unisys.com/nam/300.php to see where the Jet Stream is --- Pink is Best. Just be ready to convert to UT or Zulu time -- I try to select a prediction time that lands at 06:00 UT of the day after the night I'm checking out -- which gives me about 23:00 of the evening I want.
