As we had a brief clear spell today i got out the Coronado PST. Much to my surprise there was a couple of nice prominences, and a small group of sunspots almost dead center. I did a little tuning and some minor focus adjustments and could make out one of the sunspot was actually 2, separated with a lightbridge. As i was out for a few minutes, some of the neighborhood kids came over and i gave them their own personal tour. The young eyes soon had more spots and a really bright area, that i missed. Not satisfied using a Kellner 14mm, i popped in my trusty Ethos 13 and OMG it was like adding a whole new dimension to the view. A dark mottled moving surface with all kinds of detail. The sunspots were now showing a jagged edge all around with both umbra and penumbra clearly visible. A little background on this PST. I am sure Paul kept it a secret from me,just kidding. He knew if i got my hands on it at Merritt, that i would be so burnt out from 23 hour days of observing. Now i know some members in the club have solar scopes and surely must use them, but why have i never looked thru one till now? I remember at Kobau i looked thru a very expensive one and was impressed. But then again for 8000 dollars i should have. I think it was a Lunt(?). So now i have to expand my astronomical knowledge to include the Sun. After all, it's been 62 orbits and counting.... Mark Mc

You'll have to buy another atlas.

Which atlas do you recommend? Fraunhofer's Line Atlas or perhaps Maunder's Minimum Atlas. MB Howard can chime in here as he is now able to log in! Mark Mc

Did you hear the proposal from the new Canadian Space Agency? They're going to land a man on the Sun. Our Leader says they're going to do it at night.
