Put November 13th on your dinner date calendar. 6 PM, Crossroads Restaurant.
The FVAS will be hosting the President of the Royal Astronomical Society,
Vancouver Centre, who will be giving a run down on the advantages of us joining
this Canada wide group. Although we have remained proudly independent through
out the years, with our membership getting older and the new generation not
so inclined to look up, it has become harder to get new comers into the hobby.
We hope with more support we can keep this group going forward. So with this in mind, the executive group has been tasked with making this happen. From all the initial findings, not much will really change in regards to the operation of the club on a day to day basis. What we will get is a chance to have speakers come in from town from the big club to give us the presentations that we all love to come to. Also we will have no insurance costs (which is our biggest expenditure), access to
all the RASC events held at various locations, and all the perks of belonging to the "mother club". We still get to do our "own thing" in regards to MacDonald Park.
Discussion by membership to follow.
I would like to take this time to say Thank You! to Greg S. and DeepSky Darrell
for helping me do all the behind the scenes leg work. You make it look easy!
Nary a day goes by with out me thinking: how did Paul run this club so well for
so many years? The man was truly a giant in my life, now he is the Legend.
