The future of the FVAS looks good. After much debate and deep soul searching
it was decided that we needed to go a different direction. As for many, our insurance costs are going to the Moon and beyond. Just not sustainable with our
small loyal membership base. As I was tasked (and elected) with keeping the club going forward, i had to remember the words spoken to me by Paul " Do your best,
use all options, delegate, cajole, git er done" And remember the people that came before you that gave everything to create and enjoy this club.
We have submitted our application to the RASC to become the newest group.
As good luck would have it, the CEO of the RASC, is shepherding our application process. Thanks, Phil G.!
Our new name, not set in stone yet, but we hope it to be Fraser Valley Centre, or
Fraser Valley Astro Centre, We will see what the committee comes up with.
As we get to set our own dues somewhat, this will decided at a meeting.
Some of the perks we get are a years subscription to the newly revamped
Sky News Magazine, The RASC Observers Handbook 2020, and access to all
RASC activities. Our expensive insurance costs for our Dark sky park and public
activities are all covered under them. We get to keep our beloved 20" scope and
trailer. Also we will get to invite guest speakers to our meeting to liven things up.
So we hope to have this all set up soon, with a link to our page on the RASC website, you can pay your annual dues through it.
Also no decision has been made on the status of this very web site, although i am inclined to keep it active till we get the other set up.
Thanks to everyone, especially Greg S. and Deep Sky Darrell for helping me "git er done"
