Getting a lot of inquiries as to what we are doing at McD Park. Short answer is nothing. First off, on our last months outing we got chased off by mosquitos. That and the ever growing light pollution make the park useless for all but looking at the planets. This year the full moon just so happens during the best part of the Perseid meteor shower. So we won't be out there. Just a reminder, if you do go, the gate is locked at sunset. You are in for the night if you ignore the security person!

Perhaps with both Saturn and Jupiter in the fall evening sky we might consider some actual Sidewalk astronomy. Two decades ago we'd meet in the old Earl's restaurant parking lot on south Fraser Way and show the patrons entering and exiting the planets and such. We were much appreciated by the management. Maybe someone would know a commercial parking lot where we could set up and there'd be a steady stream of patrons that would enjoy such a thing.
The problem with the Rotary Stadium near my place in Clearbrook is we can't work out of our vehicles but have to drag everything to where the people are walking around the track.
It looks like late October would be the best timing for catching both planets. The moon wouldn't matter and would be an extra bonus since we're in light polluted skies anyway.
Anyone know a business that would appreciate our presence? Or a park that is frequented after sunset?
