Next dinner meet is October 12th, at the Crossroads restaurant, 6 PM, back meeting room.
#1 Up for discussion is...McDonald Park. Do we continue to try and use it or give it up?
Observing has become all but useless except for the planets or with the right astro photo setup.
This is my #1 "problem". I get so many requests to go out and show people the night sky. Not a week goes by with out a call or email. Now I ask, how can we use the park when it is not really a dark sky anymore?
So what do us observers do or go to? Well, we drive at least an hour up toward Chilliwack lake or head up the Coquilhalla to a dark spot. You just can't do astronomy the way its meant to be in a light polluted sky. It's like going to a trout farm for fishing! The experience is not the same. And after people expect the object to look like a Hubble shot, it really deflates ones expectations.
#2 We will discuss the taking down of our FVAS pages which includes the pro boards message page.
Most of it is very outdated. We have a Facebook page which reaches out to a wider audience.
#3 Club scope and trailer. This a tuffy. Every time i bring this up i get a ton of push back. It hardly gets used. I have my own scope and rarely use the 20". But it is not in your driveway! and i want it gone from mine. So, unless i can convince G.L. to park it his driveway, we have to decide what to do with it. I want it gone!
#4 updates for possible next years Merritt Star Quest 2.0. We are looking at a new site, stay tuned!
