If you're thinking about getting into the hobby of Astronomy there's a few things you should do first. Visit with an Astronomy club and talk to them about what aspect of astronomy you're interested in. Talk to the members about types of equipment you may need, what you wish to do with the equipment. Such as just observing or photography (quite costly really but there are those that just love it.) DO NOT PURCHASE A TELESCOPE FROM A BOX STORE...do yourself a favor if you don't have the time to visit a club, talk to the folks at a good Telescope store. Vancouver Telescope CenterCanadian TelescopesPurchase the book NIGHT WATCH by Terence Dickinson, this book is jam packed with excellent information written in understandable terms, tips, tricks,do's and don'ts. You can find it here at Sky News Book StoreReally good, life lasting telescopes start at around 400 dollars and up! Anything below that mark and you're at a disadvantage! Trust me! For a first scope (observational only) consider the Dobsonian Telescope! (Rock solid and very user friendly) for more information on the various types of telescopes have a read; TELESCOPE EQUIPMENTIf you have any questions email us at FRASER VALLEY ASTRONOMERS
