Hello,
I was wondering if anyone on here does any Astrophotography. I have access to borrow almost any time I want, a Cannon T5i. Since there is still a bit of an investment to get everything to use that properly, I am wondering if anyone on here has any experience at all, even if they dont use a DSLR and went the CCD route.
I have done a fair bit of reading, and talking to other people from other web sites, and it seems an almost contentious topic. People who use higher end CCD setups have told me its not worth using anything else, while others with even 4" SCT's and Newtonians who use similar DSLR with CMOS sensors have said nothing but great things about going that way once they got the tracking software figured out.
Thanks for any replies.

Hi Adhamh, I'm mostly into imaging, perhaps 10% visual, the occasional lunar and planetary observing when at opposition. Perhaps one of the better quotes I've read over the years is: "The best camera to use is the one you already have" and you just happen to luck out with a great DSLR for AP The T5i sensor has decent low noise levels. I too am still at the DSLR state, Canon (unmodded) as well and am having a blast. As I live in a "bright red" light pollution area I don't image any high red emission nebulae but it still leaves me with plenty of bright, colourful targets. Hope this helps. Cheers, CS James

James,
Thanks for the reply. I will give it a go once I get the few things needed.

Thanks for the offer Craig, I probably won't take you up on it though. Next week I should have the time to go and pickup the adapters and t-rings along with a few other things I have been wanting. This weekend I am hoping to get out then again early next week, and maybe that time use the T5i. If you like, do you want to try to meet up on Monday or Tuesday night? The forecast looks good for both of them. We can figure out how to use the cameras at the same time.
